The exhibition Truman’s Through Practice is part of the practice-based research project Architectural Lettering, Visual Identity and Early Branding in Commercial Buildings in London (1870s–1939): the Truman’s Case. The research comprises a written thesis and this exhibition. The written thesis was submitted in July 2024 for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts London). The exhibition will open in September/October and will be held at Workplace Co-operative 115. Rather than aiming to show the research as a whole, the intention of this exhibition is to show how research can be developed through practice. In particular, it demonstrates how my own practice as a graphic designer has helped me understand how Truman’s, a historic London brewery, used architectural lettering on their public houses as part of their branding activity from the end of the nineteenth century until the Second World War. Opening times: _coming soon. By appointment only. Send me an email at elena@circulardetipografia.es if you want to visit the exhibition.
